Metaphor And Metonymy Philosophical Significance

Metaphor and metonymy are more than the common figures; they also have a close connection with the formation of the meaning. At the beginning of the western philosophy, and also in the contemporary era, philosophers have been always putting much importance on the relationship between the philosophy and the rhetoric. People often regard Being as the content of the metaphysics, and dialectic as the secret of the philosophy, the philosophy has nothing to do with the rhetoric, and the relationship between the philosophy and the rhetoric should be mutually exclusive. However, actually, there is a close connection between Being and rhetoric, the scientific analysis principle and the dialectic are developed from the rhetoric. As the typical forms of the figures, metaphor and metonymy play an important role in the formation of the meaning. This paper deals with the internal logic among metaphor, metonymy, and ontology, as well as its theoretical clues; and this paper also begins with the semeiology, and interprets the philosophical meaning of the rhetoric from a new point of view. In the field of the traditional philosophy, the dualistic relationships between appearance and essence, general and individual, as well as nature and culture, etc can all come down to the relationship between performance and significance, corresponding with that of the symbol and significance, they are conditioned by the rhetoric of the symbols. Starting from the metaphorical and metonymical point of view, the significance of Being and bings can be regarded as a result of the weaving and the use of symbols , and the significance can not exist independent of the physical symbols, but is in the weaving process of the symbols. Therefore, on the ontological level, the philosophy and the rhetoric can be reintegrated. The reintegration means the collapse of the metaphysics which was an idea system, and the new philosophy thinking named"seeking wisdom"will have the nature of the symbol rhetoric. The significance of this reintegration tells us that there is a close connection between the philosophy and the experienced writing and words, and the philosophy should explore the possibilities of the significance ceaselessly, but not be limited to the eternal speculative system.
