Road movie is a genre of films that shows alienation, loneliness, the act of searching, communication and rebellion related to people, and its narration is based on the journey and road, with what characters encounter on the road and their inner change as motive power to make the plot develop. There are many excellent road movies in the United States, and some research results of road movies from foreigners can be seen now, but the systematic research on them is still scarce. Professional research on road movies in China is almost a blank. Therefore, this paper will give a comprehensive and systematic study of the American road movies with the hope of casting a brick to attract jade.The first chapter of this article defines the concept of road movie, analyses the source and molding reasons of the road movies and gives out similarities and differences between road movies and western movies/gangster movies. Chapter II is the focus of the whole paper, describing the features of road movies in detail. American road movies concern more about the marginal individuals, showing their thoughts emotions and behavior in a "road" mode structure. The flowing and changing shots and the dynamic road-music constitute a unique audio-visual language for American road movies. Multiple meanings exist in such visual codes as roads, vehicles and the scenes along the way. Chapter III mines excavation of cultural values in American road movies from the point of sociology and history, etc. With the development of the times, American road movie will highlight more and more about its genre features, showing a diversity of its values and styles. |
