Traditional Suzhou Storytelling Accompaniment Art Research

Suzhou Tanci, which was stemming from the end of the Ming dynasty and the beginning of Qing dynasty and was popular in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai areas, was one kind of traditional entertainment involving Narrative-singing. Suzhou Tanci school melody is numerous. The accompaniment, as one of Suzhou Tanci's four big art means, has the vital role in it, and it is also an important factor attributed to the various melody schools' characteristic.This article, which takes the former research results as foundation, uses ethnomusicology research techniques, fills the blank and enhances the insufficient studies. That is to say, this paper aims at doing the system thorough study of the traditional Suzhou Tanci's accompaniment historical development, accompaniment musical instrument's characteristics, accompaniment techniques, accompaniment music's structure function as well as its shape characteristic. The full text mainly divides into three chapters: The first one, Suzhou Tanci accompaniment historical evolution and development. From the aspects related to traditional Suzhou Tanci accompaniment, such as accompaniment musical instruments, accompaniment forms, accompaniment ways as well as accompaniment techniques, it inquired its historical development path, and made the careful analysis on various factors under the cultural context. The second chapter, traditional Suzhou Tanci accompaniments' artistic characteristic. This part thoroughly analyzed the accompaniment musical instrument's performance and the reasons why it is coincided with Suzhou Tanci, summarized the commonly used accompaniment techniques of Suzhou Tanci. Then, it carried on the thorough inquisition to the duplicate arias factors existed in Suzhou Tanci, the accompaniment music's structure function and the shape characteristic. The third one, came up with the comprehensive analysis summary to the Suzhou Tanci accompaniment's function and the characteristic.
