The earliest pottery barn models were found in the Qing tombs in late Spring and Autumn period at the latest, So the custom of burying small barns which was a feature of Qing tombs might originate from those Qin cultural regions. In early period of the Western Han dynasty, the custom of using bural objects like barns became more common around central plain region's tombs. The practical bams were just used in region lords' tombs as special cases, however, those pottery burial objects of the same kind incresed, developed and popularized later. Besides, the development of practical barns to smaller model barns was deeply influenced both by the unique unversal ideology and the geomantic omen belief of Qin and Han people. This thesis based on the research towards those published files of pottery barns found in Qin and Han tombs. Through research work, I found that varied ancent burial objects were used as sacrificial and burial purposes in Qin and Han tombs. The combination of the two kinds represented the soul of burial objects in Qin and Han tombs and showed the change of people's thought. The commom feature of barn model showed the wealth owned by the dead, it might also indicate the change of traditional burial custom, the shake of burial system and other related issues. The analysis of pottery barn burial phenomena in Qin and Han tombs will help us to find out not only the thought changing process of central plain region people in Qin and Han dynasty , but also the all kinds of foundation to cause such change.
