Richard Rorty's Utopian Theories Of Liberalism And Its Contemporary Value

The liberal utopia is the ultimate destination of Rorty's post-philosophy thinking. At first,Rorty studied analytical philosophy,and then made a critic about analytical philosophy in turn. He believes that the western traditional philosophy and the analytical philosophy is the philosophy of"capital"and"mirror".Rorty thinks this philosophy must end,and the culture of post-philosophy would surely come .With the confirmation of"contingency",Rorty turned to the liberalism in political.Along with the development of the post-modern thought,the western traditional value systems and humanitarian is facing the challenges and deconstruction unprecedented,"God is dead"and"Human is dead"and the rationalism of pursuiting the goal of certainty meets its end.In extremely panic, people in post-modern society think that Post-modernism represents an attitude of total despair of the politic.As to it, Rorty has carried on the correction to this manner, and thinks that to give up the rationalism is not meaning to the forfeit of free,democratic faith, and not to give up the liberalism utopia hope. Although Rorty adheres to the fundamental values of the Enlightenment liberalism,he believes that liberalism has no longer based on the philosophy of rationalism necessary. From the perspective of"contingency",Rorty re-describes the liberalism and firmly believes that the development of future society lies in the re-description and Utopia hope, so as to defence the western liberalism thinking.Although not entirely correct, Rorty's liberal ideas and views, from the perspective of post-modern to re-write the liberalism ,have a very important Enlightenment role to us. On the one hand,in this context which is based on the post-modernism and Richard Rorty's liberal utopia theory, the writer re-thinks liberalism theories and makes the study and discussion about it more in-depth.On the other hand,this article discusses the theoretical and practical significance of Rorty's liberal utopia,by comparing Richard Rorty's liberalism and the concept of Marxist freedom ,and in light of China's current building of political civilization. Specifically,this paper is divided into four parts:first, the background of the liberal utopia theory and its proposing;Second,the theory of liberalism utopia connotation; Third,the analysis of liberal utopia theory. And fourth,the contemporary value of study on the liberal utopia theory. Overall,on realizing the significance and value of Rorty's liberal utopia theory in a certain sense, we should clearly recognize the essence of class and the limitations of this theory,but also it should be noted that the difference in cultural traditions between the China and west,and China's unique characteristics of contemporary social and political structure.Therefore, we must adhere to the guidance of Marxism, with the Marxist viewpoint and method to analysis Rorty's theory ,so as to promote China's political civilization construction for better.
