Francisco de Goya, 1746-1828, is the greatest artist of 18th century in Spain. The works of his later period which are of unique style and deep influence established his position in western artistic history. In the works of this period, general appearance of his pictures is full of'black'which is the main body and major expressional manner. He has placed his profound thinking of art, life, nation and humanity on his works. Through making up the origin, embodiment, and development direction of'black'in his later period works, this paper tries to interpret the underlying abstract metaphors and traces his changing track of artistic style. At the same time, this paper attempts to understand his artistic idea, life attitude and relative culture and artistic meaning.
