Chinese idiom is a kind of special, idiomatic set phrase which has complex structures and cultural connotation. It plays a very important role in Chinese learning among the foreign students. It is also one of the difficulties in Chinese teaching.Up to now, the studies on idioms in the field of TCFL(Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language )focus on comparing Chinese cultural and foreign cultural and their different influence on idioms, etc. However, less attention is paid to the rules of studying idioms; thus no applicable methodology available to guide idioms teaching and no applicable principles available to make idioms teaching contents.In this paper, the author firstly emphasizes the significance of idioms teaching in TCFL. Being an important and difficult part of vocabulary teaching, Chinese idioms will be taught among the middle-level and high-level foreign students.As to the teaching contents of Chinese idioms, this paper shows us the rules of making idioms teaching contents. The difficulty and using frequency of idiom should be carefully considered when we making the idioms teaching contents. We should think about students'needs as well.To improve the idioms teaching, this paper proposed several different methods. In this paper, the teaching methods are based on the special features of Chinese idioms.
