Sui Dynasty is a short dynasty in Chinese history, but similar to Qin Dynasty which unified the whole country and reformulated many systems. It has an important influence on social prosperity of Tang Dynasty. Many scholars pay more attention to the research of Sui Dynasty and compose a great deal of research papers.This paper is focus on one kind of carved stone cultural relic of Sui Dynasty, named "st(u|-)pa inscription", which is mainly buried under the st(u|-)pa or inlaid on the st(u|-)pa and has obvious religious meanings. This paper covers almost all data of Sui Dynasty's st(u|-)pa inscription, and this research topic has its originality.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part generalizes the research content, which mainly explains the research meaning and current research conditions.The second part carries on a specialized research on the most important st(u|-)pa inscription of Sui Dynasty, that is "Ren Shou Buddhist relics' st(u|-)pa inscription" (Ren Shou was the first emperor's reign title of Sui Dynasty), which were exclusively built in order to place Buddhist relics(Sheli舍利, Skt.sarira) and spread all over many places in China at that time. This paper does a detailed research on the forming systems of st(u|-)pa inscription, its placement and the characters on st(u|-)pa inscription.The third part conducts the specialized research on the cultural relics' place of Anyang, Henan Province. This place was a temple ruins which named "Lingquan temple at Baoshan(宝山灵泉寺)". Here have many st(u|-)pa inscription of Sui Dynasty, which closely related with monkery burying at that time. This article proposes many new viewpoints to these cultural relics characteristic.The fourth part mainly puts forward the insufficiency of this paper and carries on an outlook to aftertime's research work.
