One of the main differences between Chinese and other languages, especially the Indo-European language, is the relation between their written language and spoken language, which are character-oriented and speech-oriented respectively.The 3 main features of Chinese characters enable a writer to create the effect of defamiliarization, which has great impact in the rhetoric of words in the novels. This thesis has selected hundreds of words which are novel and fine from dozens of famous Chinese writers' works. Written words are separated from spoken words, divided and analyzed according to the way they were created in the novels. The special features which help the realization of these functions would be fully explained. The thesis has 8 parts, first comes the literature review, then is the introduction to this research, and the following 4 chapters will analyze the corpus in 4 special linguistic forms, and then is the conclusion and discussion, at last, the corpus resource and the literature cited would be listed as appendix for reference.
