A Discussion On "Chaizi"-The "Operation Of Character"

The "operation of character" is an important way of the Chinese character rhetoric, but for a long time scholars of rhetoric has not made it clear, this has provided the model for the research on our "operation of character". On the basis of predecessors' research about the "operation of character", separating and combing of words, analyzing their meaning, this paper attempts to analyze Chinese character rhetoric, cleans up the "operation of character", which looks like the "operation of character" but actually it is not. To avoid the confusion it also helps people to use "operation of character" and make some contribution to the research of Chinese rhetoric.As for techniques, I have collected a large number of materials, and then employ the method of observation, comparison, analysis, and induction. First, I have collected a lot of materials on research related to the "operation of character" of the predecessors and then observe, compare, analyze and try to find the achievements of our predecessors' and their shortcomings and lay a solid foundation on obtaining a correct conclusion. Secondly, widely collecting language facts from articles, network, TV programs, and our ordinary lives, and then I try to classify, observe, compare, analyze them and try my best to conclude the character of "operation of character", so that we can conclude scientifically the rules of "operation of character".This paper divides into four parts. Part one is on the difference from Chinese in "operation of character". Part Two insists that "operation of character" has the function of the "jiedai, shuanguan and duiou". As for Part Three, by analyzing the Chinese character system nimbly we provide the objective on safeguard in the glyph aspect characteristic for the "operation of character". Finally the paper expresses that the "operation of character" is only the tool of expressing one's ideas, it itself is not the word game, it corrects peoples' prejudice in the "operation of character". It makes people understand the nature of the "operation of character".The "operation of character" is one of the oldest chinese character rhetoric. To make a further study of the "operation of character" playsan important part in conducting the rhetoric practice of using the "operation of character" and pushing ahead the construction of the course of rhetoric.
