Besides cognitive intelligence, people are paying more and more attention to emotional intelligence (EI) to integrate the human performance formula recently. However, the current research on EI hasn't been mature, that is, there is still controversial issues between the two models of EI and personality construct. Therefore, in order to investigate the developmental characteristics of EI, 216 senior middle school students and 229 undergraduates took the revised personality scale and the EI scale and the self-established academic satisfaction scale in the present study. Furthermore, in order to do a comparative analysis about the relationships between the two models of EI and personality, we investigated the mediating effect of the mixed model EI and the ability model EI between the big five and the academic satisfaction with senior middle school students and undergraduates respectively. We can get the following conclusions from the present study:(1) We can't draw a unique conclusion about gender differences of EI, instead, boys and girls are good at different dimensions of EI; In general, the level of EI increases with grade.(2) There is interaction between gender and grade for EI.(3)The big five relates with most dimensions of the two models of EI significantly.(4) EI of the mixed model is different from personality. For senior middle school students, the relationship between openness and the academic satisfaction is mediated by interpersonal components. For undergraduates, the relationship between openness and the academic satisfaction is mediated by adaptability components.(5) The mixed model and the ability model of EI are different from each other, because the total score of ability model mediates the relationship between personality and the academic satisfaction, but the total score of mixed model hasn't the mediating effect.
