E Chuan Master, And Its Flower Dream "three Episodes Study

The three volumes of Shenghuameng, which are collectives of Echuanzhuren's novels, consist of Shenghuameng (twelve chapters), Shiwupi (sixteen chapters), Yanliangan(eight chapters). In a long time, they have not been paid enough attention by scholars owing to the rare versions. In fact, although these three volumes are not the best novels, they have important transitional value in the history of Chinese classical novel.This text is made of four chapters: the first one is an introduction, consisting of the significance and the general study of the three volumes of Shenghuameng. The second chapter introduces the versions, the time, and the author of these three volumes. The novels, which were written in the time of Kangxi, their versions are very complex. I have sorted out the versions by searching in many ways. Through analyzing preface of Shenghuameng, inscription of Shiwupi and the three novels, I have reached a conclusion that Echuanzhuren is a person who has unrecognized talents, so his novels, especially Shenghuameng, obviously reflected his own fate by demonstrating Kang Menggeng'fate. We can have a general idea of Echuanzhuren'life by analyzing these three novels. The third chapter discusses the historic and cultural connotation of the three novels, mainly involving the show of imperial examination system and the officialdom in the end of the feudalism, the reproduction of degradation of the society, and the highlight of female image. The fourth chapter discusses the position of the three volumes of Shenghuameng in the history of Chinese classical novel, and introduces their achievements and deficiency in art. These three novels have a tendency of imitating story-telling script novel in system and plot, which reflects the transitional trace of story-telling script novel to the medium-length traditional novel. Furthermore, they are succession and integration of various types of novels, which are important in the history of Chinese classical novel.
