The word"kyosei(symbiosis)"means the relationship between two different living creatures that live close together and depend on each other in particular ways, each getting particular benefits from the other. Apparently it's a concept in the field of biology. However, the word"kyosei"has been used not only in the field of biology, but also in other areas. For instance,"kyosei between human beings and nature","kyosei among the multilateral nations and cultures","kyosei between the male and the female","kyosei with the disabled people",and so on. It can be said that, nowadays, the word"kyosei"has become a popular word in Japan, which is reflecting a trend of the time. In china, the word"kyosei"also has the deep cultural tradition and modern cultural sense. In this paper, by statistical analysis, classification and the research of the word"kyosei", the conclusions can be drawn as follows.(1) From the statistics, we can find out that, the word"kyosei"has a much wider range of use in Japan than in China. There is no"kyosei between the male and the female","kyosei with the disabled people", or"kyosei with the alien"in the classification in China.(2) The word"kyosei"has two meanings, that is, biological one and sociological one. The former can be described as"symbiosis", and the latter can be described as"conviviality". In addition,"kyosei"has arisen as a Japanese Roman alphabet. In China, there are also two meanings in the word"kyosei", yet without any different expressions to distinguish between the two.(3) The concept of Kyosei in this article is as follows: Kyosei is the universal living ways in the nature and human society. It means two different things live together ,or exist at the same time ,in the same place, and through this way, they get benefit from each other.(4) The Chinese character of"kyosei"has been found in SYOUSYO as the earliest record."亳有祥。桑穀共生于朝。", in which"kyosei'means that a mulberry and a millet were living close together. And it's the same as"symbiosis"in modern biology.(5) In exploring the relationship between human being and nature, there are two major thoughts in the environmental ethics, that is, anthropocentrism and eco-centrism. With the development of the times, anthropocentrism apparently is no longer applicable in today's world, and eco-centrism has its contradictions. Chinese traditional thought of"harmony between TEN(nature) and human"coordinated the contradiction."kyosei between human beings and nature"today is transferred from the concept of"harmony between TEN(nature) and human".
