The giant Taoist mural, named the mural of Kai clear streets for the emperor and Back to Luang, which is stored in Tiankuang Hall of Dai Temple,is known as done by Emperor ZhenZong of Song Dynasty after the Honor Ceremony for Mountain Tai.The mural shows a grand spectacle with the image imitating the Emperor and the formality comparing with that for the son of heaven. This thesis has studied traits of apparels and implements in this mural, consulting the related regulations and records, finally we arrive at the following points:The jade carriages, surrounding guards, the way clearing custom and carriages led by elephants in the mural are the main traits of Procession Guard of Song Dynasty. The scene of envoys from foreign countries visiting the imperial court corresponds with the event of Emperor ZhenZong's Mountain Worship in Mount Tai recorded in the historical literature. The number of people in the whole mural is 691instead of 630 or 697 which was claimed by previous researches. The apparels in the mural differ in official rank;and civilians and military officials have different apparels as well.Nevertheless, the patterns could not be identified as that of Song Dynasty, which has some folk characteristics and indicates the repetitive painting after Song Dynasty.Several items of implement in the mural appeared in Ming Dynasty, including the sacrificial vessels:armchairs, the long fans with grains of sun and moon lifted by clouds, etc.;and the instruments:horns, trumpets, iron horns, etc. The original version of this mural was completed in Song Dynasty, but it failed to keep consistency in pattern and style due to the desolation and repair of the Hall. The present version can be traced back to the 7th year of Kangxi,Qing Dynasty(1668).It was painted by folk painters in accordance with the version of Ming Dynasty after the earthquake in Mount Tai,which has some parts added after Qing Dynasty.
