《Song Never to End》was written on the background of The National South Western United University during the Anti-Japanese War. The famous scholar in literature history SiMaChangFeng praises this novel as the one of the Four High Peak of Chinese long novel in 1940s,the other three are Bajin's《Three Operas of Secular Life》,ShenCongWen's《Long River》and WuMingShi's《Namess Book》.《Song Never to End》enjoys great prosperity in TaiWan and Hongkong districts.Together with《Besiege》of QianZhongShu,it is also eulogized by the Chinese people abroad as the"Bible of Youth Time".But in mainland, few people know this novel because of some reasons.《Song Never to End》didn't publish in mainland until 2008.This thesis tries to analyze the novel from three different angles and attempts to explore《Song Never to End》's unique values in 1940s and confirm its historical place in Chinese literature. The thesis is divided into three chapters.Chapter One emphatically discusses LuQiao's(author) writing skill with distinctive traditional features.This writing style lies in author's deep passion for Chinese cluture and it is also greatly affated by the traditional novel like《Anecdotes Among the Scholar's Circle》,《Outlaws of the Marsh》and《a Dream of Red Mansions》,including its narrative structure,the language of characters and so on. As a pilot work of classical language,《Song Never to End》captures the quintessence of Chinese tradition culture.Chapter Two analyzes the tone and mood of《Song Never to End》.LuQiao avoided writing the war in the novel and created the air of postive and optimistic tone through wrting the beautiful scenery and lovely peolpe of YunNan,which actually implies the author's deep thoughts towards the life and peolple's ethic in the war.LuQiao places his hope and humanitarian ideal on the《Song Never to End》.Chapter Three describes the influence of the war era on the《Song Never to End》.Compared with the"SanLv University"in《Besiege》of QianZhongShu, it is not difficult to find that the ideal style and the ironic style are two different reflection of different author's thoughts reacted to the cruel reality in 1940s. Besides this,《Song Never to End》's wrting skill has some unique values in 1940s'"big discussion of nationalism in literature".LuQiao's try on combining traditional elements with modern elements ,to some extent ,is very valuable at that time.The conclusion, attempts to explore《Song Never to End》's unique values in 1940s and confirm its historical place in Chinese literature.
