Ding Shande is a famous composer, pianist, music educator, music theorist, and an active participant of social activities in China. His unique way of composing music is to combine western ones with those representing Chinese nationalism. His composition of piano music has contributed greatly to Chinese national piano music composition. The study and analysis of"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music"will list the composing features of the music by Ding Shande at the period of composing new music pieces, which will be of great significance to the composing of Chinese piano music.The paper is divided into three parts.Part I. First, it makes an introduction to the life story of Mr. Ding Shande and his great achievement and dedication to the cause development of Chinese music and culture. Secondly, it lists the composing features of him at three periods. Mr. Ding Shande has combined traditional ways with the new creative ones in his musical works. He has also continued to explore and improve the composing methods so as to form his own style, which makes his piano musical works occupy a unique position and have a great academic value in Chinese music composition.Part II. A careful study and analysis is done on"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music"by Ding Shande from three aspects: his sense of historical responsibility towards reviving and promoting national musical culture, composing music with the use of national music factors as one of the main music composing areas, and the historical value of the three folk songs in"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music", which reflects the composing background and significance. Afterwords, the musical form especially the composing features in melody, chord on"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music"is discussed. It is concluded that Mr. Ding Shande has not only inherited and promoted the composing technique and classical musical forms but also combined them with Chinese national music. At the same time, Mr. Ding Shande has done some reform and innovation so as to cater to the necessary aesthetic demand in the 20th century. In the regard of both the structure of the musical form and the chord in composing, the musical works by Mr. Ding Shande have showed us his profound understanding of Chinese traditional musical culture, his obvious modern sense of opening-up and rich cultural knowledge as a composer of new generation in ChinaPart III delivers from four aspects the features of Mr. Ding Shande's musical works presented by"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music"through the elaboration of nationalism, romanticism, realism and mixed use of various expressions. So it is clearly seen the combination of the tendency of nationalism, the principles of romanticism, and the composing of realism is reflected and"optimism, praise and expression"have formed the basic theme of the musical works of"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music"Part IV. The analysis of playing the"The Three Pieces of Chinese Folk Song Piano Music"is done with the first explanation of the way of the fingering arrangement, the notices for playing them, the suggestions for using pedals, shaping musical figures, describing situations and expressing delicate change of feelings.Mr. Ding Shande's composing technique and his spirit to revive and promote national musical culture set a good example for the Chinese young composers to learn and follow. Mr. Ding Shande's composing experience and pioneering spirit have undoubtedly provided us with treasure when the combination technique of composing modern music with the classical ones is tactically utilized and the eastern culture meets western ones with striking force to bring about inspiration.
