In the promotion of global trend, cross-cultural communication are happening with increasing frequency. The discussions and researches of cross-cultural communication under the global context have become an academic subject with positional elevation and influential depth of international intercourse. As the most attentional and accepting communication mode, visual communication has an important position. Film is not only of great economic culture production by the technology, but also vital carrier of disseminating popular culture and ideology. As important member of Chinese cross-cultural visual communication, Chinese films do very well by participating in cross-cultural communication around the world in these years. Therefore, particular quality of cross-cultural visual communication in Chinese films have gradually become attentive subject by academic field. The Chinese nation are being in realizing the comprehensive revival critical time. How to build up cultural great power in cross-communication, and how to compare and analyze prosperous experience in American cross-cultural communication in order to serve Chinese developing demand which has global cultural trend, become the matter of high concern. So that visual communication in cross-culture research has unique significance and value. This dissertation makes effort to deep research to visual communication and Chinese film as an important part of visual communication in order to seek an new view of cross-cultural visual communication.The foreword of this dissertation has briefly explanation on the significance of this topic, academic research status, article innovation and academic research method. There are five central parts to evolve and expound in main body: 1) The first part deals with meanings and value of cross-cultural communication. To realize and master the cross-cultural communication is important prerequisite for visual communication. Firstly, it sums up concisely concept and relation between cultural and cross-culture; and then, expatiates on the unique value of culture industry, country and international relations under the global background. 2) The second part emphasizes the visual communication. Firstly, it analyses attribute of visual communication, which has inner and outer ways, serving as powerful explanation that visual communication can be important medium in cross-cultural communication. Secondly, the following part shows its status, which can conducive to recognize historical and realistic modality and provide a foreshadowing for following object of research. 3) The third part analyses elements of cross-cultural communication in Chinese film. These include particularly interactive identity of culture and nation, historic and dynamic ethnic characteristics, celebrity effect by approved and world famous film star and director. 4) The forth part analyses universal and far-reaching elements of cross-cultural communication in American films. One is the most basic and popular technical elements that help to promote cinema industry progress. It is American original and unshakable cross-cultural element. Another important one is from multicultural blend. 5) The last part is about artistic, cultural, industrial development strategies of Chinese films in cross-cultural communication. These can further enhance cross-cultural communication influence, establish national image, build up the comprehensive national strength and develop new mentality.The main goal of dissertation is cognition and mastery of cross-cultural communication and visual communication as a whole, and analyses Chinese and American film in cross direction, after that achieves development proposals from comparing analysis results in length direction.
