Word order is one of the important topics in general linguistics study, so is object. Since the syntactic relation in Chinese are mainly displayed by means of word order and functional words, not by form, so, the word order becomes quite important in Chinese. Because of lacking of form, there are many differences when studying the object in modern Chinese. This thesis, guided by the three-plane theory, studies and analyses the position of objects in Modern Chinese sentence and attempts to analyses the position of object from different perspective, referring such foreign linguistics theories as Linguistic Typology, case grammar, Functional Grammar, Cognitive Linguistics, an so on. This thesis includes six chapters. In chapter 1, will focus on the research value, range, methods and where the data come from.Chapter 2 simply traces the previous studies on the position of objects in modern Chinese, and analyzes some problems existing in current research of objects.Chapter 3 mainly discusses the meaning of objects and the definition of the object. This thesis believes that how to define object should adopt a way of the combination of meaning and form, with general perspective . At the same time, the author investigates the typical and untypical object positions of Modern Chinese. The chapter 4 mainly discusses the typical object position of Modern Chinese. It is formed by means of the object movement. The object movement can be divided into 4 types—marked syntactic movement, unmarked syntactic movement, marked thematic movement of object and unmarked thematic movement of object. And then makes comparative analysis about three types of object in routine position—objects in typical position, objects after "ba"(把), thematic object position.Chapter 5 analyzes the restrictive features in object movement from the syntax, pragmatic, semantic and phonetic perspective. Among these features, pragmatics is not only the motive of position choosing, but also the deciding feature. Semantic features are the foundation and the prerequisite. Syntax are mandatory feature; the phonetics is regulatory feature.Chapter 6 is the conclusion of the key points of this thesis.
