Artistic songs, as a miniature all-round art form, is an important style of vocal music in the Western music history. Franz Schubert, the famous Austrian composer of the 19th century and the founder of romantic artistic songs, who has composed more than 600 artistic songs in his brief lifetime, has given this style of music a brand-new connotation with the perfect combination of music and poetry and a partial integration of piano and vocal music. He has also initiated the Cantata Songs and many other song forms. These beautiful songs have been the artistic gems with dazzling brilliance ever since they were born. This thesis chooses the artistic song D. 965 "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen"( the shepherd on the rock), which composed Schubert in his late years for soprano, piano and clarinet, as the research object, and is divided into three chapters. The first chapter briefly summarizes the major achievements of Schubert's artistic songs, characteristics of his composition and the composing background of "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen"; the second chapter deeply analyzes this work of art from the aspects of poetry, melody, rhythm, harmony, and accompaniment; and the third chapter discusses ways of excellent performance when singing the song. Through the analysis the author aims to help vocal music learners have a better understanding of the style of Schubert's art songs, learn thoroughly the artistic conception and connotation of the song, and therefore assist the singers theoretically in correctly interpreting and performing the song so as to raise her singing level.
