Franz Schubert, the great Lied composer, has composed about six hundreds Lieder in his life. The Lied " Der Hirt auf dem Felsen ", D965, which I discuss in this paper, was composed just before his death one month ago. Compared with his others Lieder, which are rather short, it is the longest one in his all output, and is very success in the compositional techniques and ideas, including the using of the oboe, which is a unusual instrument in the setting of Lied. This paper comprises three chapters:the first chapter is an introduction of Schubert’s Lieder and the background of this Lied; the second chapter is the analytical part of this paper, in which the text and music analysis, such as the form, harmony and melody, will be concerned; in the third chapter, the author will put forward some suggestion based on the analysis and her own practice.
