Wen Feiqing Poetry Annotations was accomplished by altogether three authors. It was first compiled and noted by Zeng Yi from the late Ming dynasty, and was later supplemented to the series by Gu Yuxian whose son Gu Cili recompiled the whole annotations during the process of which some errors made by Zeng were justified and more notes were added. Wen Feiqing Poetry Annotations, whose investigations were much more detailed and notes more concise, is regarded as one of the masterpieces among the annotations for poetry by Qing authors, bears great importance and landmark significance in the research history of Wen poetry. This research paper is a subject of National Social Science Fund Project "The Research of Qing's Annotation for Tang Poetry" (Project NO: 07BYY047) anchored by professor Guo Qinna also my tutor, which " aims, by way of researching into Tang poetry annotations by Qing authors, to enlarge the application of the traditional exegetics and combine traditional exegetics with the research of Tang poetry so as to pave the sound base for the research of Tang poetry annotations and to further promote the research into the Tang poetry annotations and the development of originality research of poetic exegetics".Predecessors study Wen Tingyun, mainly from a literary point of view. Most of their study of the ancient capital, the limited research results in perspective is to start from the literature and the power in the "Annotations" research itself is extremely rare. After a comprehensive study of the contents, instantiations, and methods of the annotations by Zeng Yi and etc., this paper summarized features and orderliness of their poetic annotation, formulated some understandings of the basic theories, the findings of which will definitely serve the temporal needs of the poetry annotations and further promote the succeeding and spreading of the classic Chinese culture. Meanwhile, the research into Wen's poetry annotations by way of exegetic theories and methods can broaden the research visions of exegetics, enrich its connotations, and contribute significantly to the development of the exploration into exegetics.The introduction part of the thesis mainly introduces the significance of the topic and purpose of the research, analyzed the present research at home and abroad and their novelty, and introduced the poet Wen Feiqing and the authors of Wen Feiqing Poetry Annotations. The body part analyzed the contents, instantiations, and methods in the Annotations and summarized the features and the orderliness of Wen's poetry.The first part was mainly about the contents about notes in the Annotations, and the following aspects were included: 1) a summarize of the merits and demerits of the justifications of the notes, the methods and sources of the phonetic notation; 2) semantic interpretation, in which the features of the word interpretation and the contents of the sentence interpretation were summarized from the aspects of word interpretation, sentence interpretation and the chapter gist; 3) explanations of the special terms and regulations, in which the features and contents of the notes are introduced mostly from four aspects of interpretations: geographical noted persons, places, flora and fauna, and doctrines and regulations.The second part was mainly about the contents about notes of the Annotations: 1) introduction of the peculiarity and disadvantages of the notes for allusions; 2) introduction of the notes for the titles with a mentioning of the advantages and disadvantages of title annotations.The third part was the discussion of the usage about notes, mainly from following parts:1) the choice of the notation method "see (also)";2) comparison between this part and "see (also)" part;3) the marked methods of the "see (also)" placement;4) the disadvantages of the notation method "see (also)"The forth part was mainly about the comparison of the Annotations with Proof-Annotations to Wen Feiqing's Collection. Sum up the advantages of modern notes.In sum, the notes of Wen Feiqing Poetry Annotation is the best of the ancient capital, for Wen Tingyun's research and dissemination mading important contributions, so it is the integral part of the poetry in the Qing Dynasty. Wen Feiqing Poetry Annotations is an essential annotation for the Tang poetry by Qing authors, whose methods and accomplishment are worthy of affirmation and learning, bear irreplaceable value and importance in the future research into Wen and his poetry annotations, and contribute significantly to the succeeding and spreading of Chinese traditional culture. The disadvantages of the Annotations provide insights for constructing poetry exegeticssuited to the present time and lessons for future poetry annotations.
