Duan's references.Xu Chengqing pointed out rearcher workers of characters in the Tang Dynasty usually used Zi Lin as Shuowen.ChapterⅢ,the research on meanings of Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu.Concerning explaining meaning,the characteristics of Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu is detailed,trival,traceable.Duan's explanation on Shuowen changed the use and explanation on some character of the original passage.These changes partly only aimed to retore the original face of Shuowen.Xu Chengqing thought that many of them were because of Duan's mistaken revision to ancient materials.Duan also made errors in some name objects.As for this,Xu Chengqing researched carefully, and pointed out Duan's explanation which were in contary to himself.Hu Puan ever highly evaluated this in The History of Chinese.ChapterⅣ,summary.It talks about the general evaluation of Xu's Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu.It mainly tells three points:Firstly,the researchers should get out of the misunderstanding of traditional understanding,and take just attitudes towards Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu.This book doesn't simply aim to criticize the mistakes in Shuowen Duanzhu,but to put forward some ideas which are different or contrary to Duan's,although some words are contrary to customs of learners.Secondly,it summarizes the achievements of Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu.It is of great significance to the research on Shuown Duanzhu even to the whole "the research of Shuowen ".It can make completed results to compare the font and meaning of characters between the Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu and Shuowen Duanzhu.Thirdly,the biggest limitation of Shuowen Duanzhu Kuangmiu.
