Impromptu dance is a spontaneous exploration into the potential of human actions. As an important element in dances for performance, ceremony, social intercourse, education and treatment, it is a kind of dance that humans spontaneously perform to show their inner intention at free will. Impromptu dance is characterized by spontaneity, creativity and personality. Through impromptu dance, people can develop their physical potential, foster creativity and collaboration, as well as facilitate harmonious development of mental and physical In particular, the most direct link between impromptu dance and children lies in that impromptu dance is a common behavior of children. Moreover, impromptu dance goes well with the mental and physical characteristics of children and is conducive to the sound development of children's body and mind. However, due to the wide difference of physiological and psychological states between children and adults, children's impromptu dance differs greatly from that of adults in terms of action patterns and psychological motivation. Children's impromptu dance, like "live child painting", is unique and valuable which can not be imitated by adults. Thus, it deserves to be recognized as a special form of dance. Yet unfortunately, at present, while dance education for children is developing very quickly, the role of impromptu dance is usually neglected. A series of malpractice is common in present dance education for children, including too much focus on technical skills in teaching and the mimicry of actions, too much emphasis on vertical improvement of actions. These malpractices are rooted in the mistaken opinions about dance education, which results in a shifted focus on the pursuit of art instead of the meaning of education in teaching dance to children. This evokes us to contemplate on the dance education of children at its elementary phase The solution to this problem, I think, is to make impromptu dance a major teaching element before formal physical training. This type of teaching is children-centered, takes "inspiration-creation" as its main form. Therefore, on one hand it can win popularity among children; on the other hand it is beneficial to the physical and mental development of children. It is not only in line with the latest advance concepts of art education, but also echoes the appeal for quality-oriented education. To summarize, impromptu dance allows children to dance their favorite dance, learn more about dancing and improve themselves on various fronts. Only this kind of elementary dance education for children is ideal.
