In the 1960s, a new trend named "New Journalism" Novel rapidly grew up and got popularity in the US,which was caused by the unstable social reality. As a new concept for both journalism and literature, it became a sensational fad in both communities.With innovative concept, unique writing methods and surprising social effects, the new trend indicated a particular cultural phenomenon popular in the US of the 1960s.Yet, good times never lasted long. That "New Journalism" Novel covered both journalism and literature gradually evolved to its internal conflicts and led to multiple imbalances. These conflicts and imbalances could hardly be avoided nor overcome, which resulted to "New Journalism" Novel's sharp decline after its popularity."New Journalism" Novels focused on social "Subculture" phenomenon and reflected the "Grey Zone" hard to name or define in the progressing processes of human society. Its typical works demonstrated unique aesthetics and humanity value as well as a priceless social value. Even today, "New Journalism" Novels and their value are still greatly influencing journalistic writing and realism literature.This paper attempts to explore, discuss and analyze the multi-causes for "New Journalism" Novel,unique composing methods, humanity and social value of typical works, social effects and reasons for final decline. The author wishes to demonstrate the whole process of "New Journalism" novel from its birth to decline, explore its unique essentials and discuss the enlightenment brought about for society then and future generations.
