Phonogram Chong Wens are the phonograms of Chong Wen in Shuowenjiezi. This paper chooses the version of China public house in 1963 which was a photocopy of block printed edition by Changzhi Chen as a original work, and finds 1274 Chong Wens, including 755 phonogram Chong Wens. This paper takes all the phonogram Chong Wens as the reaserch object, and try to do a meticulous description and explanation by a study of their main tupes, use condition, and the connection with their original words.This thesis is divided into four parts:The first part is generality, introducing the actuality of the research in Phonogram Chong Wen of Shuowenjiezi, and the significance of the research.The second part concludes the main types of the Phonogram Chong Wen, and illuminate the using situation of the Phonogram Chong Wen. The original words of all the phonogram Chong Wen consist pictograph, associative compounds and phonogram. Comparing to the original words, the Phonogram Chong Wen add phonetic components, or the meaning components, or change graphemes. In the process of using in the past dynasties, many Phonogram Chong Wen had changed in pronunciation, character meaning, and grapheme in various degreesThe third part discusses the connection between the Phonogram Chong Wen and the original words. Above all, this part discusses the Phonogram Chong Wen has countless ties with their original words generally, then explain the connection by comparing the phonetic components with the original words and the meaning components with the original words respectively. The main function of the meaning components are to show the acception, and the phonetic components are always similar with the pronunciation of the original words.The fourth part is a conclusion, to sum up the whole paper, and discern the development track of Chinese characters from the research of the Phonogram Chong Wen.
