This thesis focus on two aspects of Han style Buddhist statues and the Han style traditional statues, doing research in analyzing the characteristics, evolution, provenance of the Han style statues which appeared in the Mogao frescoes of Northern Dynasties. In order to retrace the derivation of these statues'characteristics, they are compared with the other relevant Buddhist statues of India, West Region, Han nationality and the traditional statues of the Han style painting from Central Plains, and furtherly we make a conclusion that Mogao statues of Northern Dynasties had changed twice with Han style, one occurred from later Northern Wei to Western Wei, and the other occurred in Northern Zhou. The source of these statues'characteristics shows the complexity which can be explained from three points. Primarily, the style of Han Dynasty and Wei Dynasty was inherited. Secondarily, the Central style which influenced by the culture of the Southern Dynasties was taken in, once more, the frescoes of tomb, portraits of brick, stone statues and Nations at that time affected it deeply. Meanwhile, this thesis further explores the reason why the characteristics of Mogao frescoes with Han style statues of Northern Dynasties can form.
