Political parties and the party politics have been found in the period of the bourgeoisie revolution firstly. They are the results of the Political Civilization. They have played a significant role in the modern history of mankind. Nowadays, not only China but also the whole world has started the construction of the Political Modernization. I believe that political parties and the party politics will play a more significant role in the modern history of mankind. The first climax of the political activities of political parties in the history of country appeared in the early period of the Republic of China. The external form of these activities of political parties was quite similar to the competitive model of the western politics of the political parties. Because of the lack of the economic base, the class foundation and the social culture, the politics of political parties in this historical period finally ended in failure. Under the influence of the traditional values that "Gentlemen do not join political parties" and their previous failure, the political parties started to transform when the parliament of the Republic of China was reconstructed in 1916. They declared that they were no longer political parties but political factions which were called "Invisible Party" such as "the Yanjiu Faction", "the Shangque Faction", "the Jiaotong Faction" and "the Anfu Faction" etc. The period of the "Invisible Party" has entered.Studying the "Invisible Party" in the period of the Northern Warlords is the purpose of my thesis which will describe the background, process and the cause of their appearance and disappearance. Because of the characteristic of my thesis, it is very important to use the historical research method. I will do my best to have a deep understanding of my study. There are five parts in this paper including introduction and four chapters:The introduction is to describe the historical context of the political parties in the Republic of China and give an accurate time positioning of the "Invisible Party". Then describe the achievement of other academic experts and point out that the significance of my thesis. In chapter one, the author firstly describe the background of the "Invisible Party". Then describe the process between their appearance and disappearance. In chapter two, the author uses the method of historical materialism to describe the cause of their appearance and disappearance. This phenomenon occurred because of the influence of the traditional values that "Gentlemen do not join political parties" and the shadow of their previous failure. Due to the attack of the Northern Warlords and the lack of the economic base, the class foundation and the social culture, the "Invisible Party" disappeared finally. In the third chapter, the author does an analysis to find their nature by contrasting with the modern political parties. Due to the lack of the basic elements of modern political party, the "Invisible Party" is not a political party at all. It is an abnormal political party which is similar to a political group in the feudal society. In the last chapter, the author point out the significance to the construction of the Political Civilization in China. In the last, the author makes a conclusion that the only correct way to achieve the Political Civilization is to construct a party politics with Chinese characteristics.
