On The Sino-japanese War The Nationalist Government During The Military Service System "pull Young Men"

After the July 7th Incident of 1937, Japan invaded China on a large scale, the Anti-Japanese War broke out comprehensively. Among so many generals of each province of the nation, Liuxiang, called "King of Sichuan", who was the first one applied to the central authorities by telegraph, asked for permission to go out of Sichuan to kill the enemies. During the 8-year long tough Anti-Japanese War, as the home front of the war, Sichuan provided with funds, grains and people, which had great effect on the victory of the war. The people of Sichuan made indelible contribution to the final victory of anti-Japanese and saving the country in the war. During the war more than 3 million able-bodied men were conscripted for the battlefront, which was the most forceful and direct support to the war. However, among the conscripted able-bodied men of Sichuan, about eighty to ninety percent were forced to join the army through illegal methods, which people hadn't researched deeply.As an abnormal derivative under the military system of Kuomintang government, "conscripting able-bodied men by force" was quite popular in the whole Sichuan province right then. During the 8-year long time, within all the areas, there appeared magistrates related with corruption, malfeasance and fraudulence in the military system, including neighborhood administrators and chief executives of villages, even including the county magistrates and the military system personnel who handled taking over the conscripted able-bodied men. For their personal gain, they had no scruple to offend the government order, collude with each other, force and sell the conscripted able-bodied men by bribery. Under their exploit layer by layer, the common people was painful, so discontent and indignation rose all around,finally it evolved into a large-scale civil commotion which lasted for a long time in the Anti-Japanese War.This dissertation tried analyzing the reasons why "conscripting able-bodied men by force" happened through the following four aspects:the nation's crisis, the practical situation of the Anti-Japanese War, the status of Sichuan during the war, as well as the implementation of the military system of Kuomintang government in Sichuan. And then the dissertation discussed the large-scale civil commotions because of conscripting able-bodied men by force, which happened in several counties such as Zhongjiang, Guanghan and Longchang. Finally, we drew a conclusion that why Kuomintang government lost morale and tended to corruption rapidly, one of the most important reasons was the implementation of its immature military system.
