In the present thesis, the status of music education of middle school in the new situation has been obtained through systematically studying the teaching of music education and performing questionnaire survey and interview of music teachers. The results indicate that some of the teachers can not adapt to the high-demand of New Curriculum Standard. After analyzing the curriculum design and educational content of the major of music teacher education and investigating the seniors from four normal colleges, we put forward the relationship between the educational objective and direction of music education in normal college and elementary education of music: the cultivated students of music education in normal college should possess the knowledge and capacity corresponding to music teachers of elementary and secondary school; the scheme of reform for the educational objective and direction of music education of normal college is——persisting on serving for elementary education; the curriculum design and educational content should be tuned according with the practicality of elementary education, such as, strengthening the train of practice, increasing optional courses, opening new courses with practicality and applicability, as well as cultivating qualified music teachers, which can meet the demand of New Curriculum Standard, have enough expertise and technique for elementary education of music.
