A Study On The Security Interests Of China In Pacific Island Countries

Pacific Island Countries lie at the center of Pacific Ocean, which means they carry geographic significance, that is, they are the natural continuance of the 21 st Century Maritime Silk Road and the important entrance to faraway ocean. Moreover, they have significant strategic value for the upholding of the security for our country, the furthering of strategy of oceanic power as well as the realization of the long-term development of our country. The interests we have on the Pacific Island Countries include economic interest, security interest, source interest, diplomatic interest and so on, among which, the security interest is at the core and serves as the fundamental condition for the realization of all the else.Security interest, as mentioned above, includes the aspects of military, economy, source and so on. And for the upholding of the security interest, strategic preposition at the Pacific Island Countries should be done beforehand. To do so, strategic support of the power export of national safeguard should be established.Historical analysis method, comparative analysis method and strategic thought method are used. What’s more, theory and practice both home and abroad, ancient and present, are used to illustrate the national security interest we have on the Pacific Island Countries and the way of its maintenance. Four chapters are identified, namely, 1) historical development of the importance of Pacific Island Countries to the world political layout is reviewed, and on its basis, the importance it bears on China is made clear; 2) the game status quo of the present Pacific Island Countries is analyzed, and from the viewpoint of “Geopolitical Pivot Country” and “Overall national security concept”, it is illustrated that national security interest is the primary one China has on the Pacific Island Countries, and the conception of establishing the strategic support of the export of the power of national safeguard is put forward; 3) theory and practice of exporting the present safeguard power are combed, which provide information for the realization of the strategic goal; 4) the potential obstacles which stand in the process of the implementation are thoroughly analyzed, and the relevant suggestions are put forward.
