A Theoretical Study Of Wallerstein 's "World System"

There are many research results to be formed to analyse the world historys theory of Marx in the mainstream of educational circle, but most of them are based on temporal logic. The theory of world system of Immanuel Wallerstein shows the historical narrative intuitively. Essentially, according to his dissertation on the emergence, development and character of “world system”, he adheres to the integration of time and space. Howere, people don’t realize that there is another more fundamental construction which is spatial logic in his theory. The purpose of this thesis is to try to clarify the theoretical logic of the theory of world system with integrity of the research methods. Study shows that, before Wallerstein, Marx has realized the historical transformation of the core of the modern criticism which advances the core from “rational” to “capital”. More importantly, Marx regards space as an essential condition of capital gain and offers it to future generations for the modern criticism. Wallerstein’s theory grasps the core logic which is “Capital Gain” as a kind of the modern criticism. With the profound historical perspective, he connects the different spaces that capital with the purpose of added value creates from macroscopic and microcosmic level, and then, he analyses and criticizes the reality of gapital spatialization deeply. Theoretical logic of this theory is that put capital gain as the pointcut to research the root of modernity, take spatial motion as intermediary and accomplish the purpose of modern criticism for the reality of gapital spatialization. Nonetheless, due to the lack of holistic view, the theory can not perceive the phenomenon that power of “unified subject” shifts to “plural subject”. China, in its “peaceful developing”, faces harsh reality that the modern world system is experiencing evolution of “Spatialization” sharply.
