Logistics Development In China And Its Countermeasures

The word hysical Distribution?emerged in the U.S. initially, which was translated into Chinese referring to aterial allocation?or ommodity assignment? During the World War II, owing to the war supply, American military established the theory of ogistics?and applied it in military activities. Logistics means unitedly arrange wartime activities, such as production of materials, purchase, transportation and distribution in order to make the wartime supplies to have a lower expenditure, faster speed and better service. Later, the word ogistics? was extensively employed in enterprises so that it is also called ommercial logistics?and irculating logistics? Logistics, in here, has included the physical distribution of products, and circulation. Hence, it has become a more extensive concept. Modem physical distribution industry has become a supplying chain system, which includes transportation, production, circulation and consumption. The physical distribution industry is even regarded as the core competence of the development of future enterprises. It is also considered the third profit source?excect the ways of reducing the consumption of resources and raising labor productivity. China introduced the concept of hysical distribution?at the beginning of the 1 980s. However, its developing level and speed are not satisfied because of various reasons. First, there is no unified understanding of the concept of hysical distribution? The service system of physical distribution socialization needs to be strengthened. Enterprises have no full understanding of the significance of physical distribution. The confusion of managerial system grievously restricts the development of physical distribution. The study and education of physical distribution science need to be enhanced. The cultivation of physical distribution industry and the things concerning to the physical distribution information still keep a low level. Second, most domestic enterprises do not know how to start and develop the physical distribution. How to combine the advanced technology and the practical condition of China's economical development? What should government departments do and which effects do they have in the development of physical distribution? On the basis of the function of the fundamental theory of physical distribution management and integrity of supplying chain, this paper deeply analyzes the existing problems of the physical distribution industry in China. This paper also gives some opinions and advice to the development of physical distribution in accordance with the basic theory of the physical distribution and the tendency and advanced experience of international physical distribution development. This paper is divided into three chapters: the general expounding of physical distribution, the problems existing in it and settlements and advances to the development of modern physical distribution. In the first chapter, the author introduces the origination and development of the concept of physical distribution in national economy, and the developing tendency of modem physical distribution. It emphasizes the differences between traditional and modern physical distribution, meanwhile, the author raises his own basic recognition to modern physical distribution.
