An application study of data warehouse and data miningin the business managementShengyang Zhang Management School, Zhejiang UniversityAbstractThis paper conclude the researches on the data warehouse and data mining, and the applications of which on the business decision support systems. Upon this, the general data warehouse design of Hangzhou Water brings forward, which focuses on two themes: production and sales.Towards the difference between supply and marketing and the clients' service, we give a pipe network model and its solution combining GIS. This provides the solutions for the two themes' data mining and analysis. This paper does some references on the application of data warehouse and data mining in public utilities. The conclusions shows as follows:1 .More and more companies have been applying data warehouse and data mining that magnitude of data need be dealt with. Data warehouse, especially data mining, is becoming the important tool to support decision-making and improve business management.2.Data warehouse promotes database technology innovation and newly ideas for DSS. The DSS based upon data warehouse achieves multi-dimensions analysis and procedure of data. By OLAP and data mining, we do knowledge discovery and decision information attaining.3.Data warehouse application on themes shows feasibility about the" down-up" policy of design.4.The field of DW and DM applications can be widened. Public utilities such as Water Company ^ Electric Power etc. are ready to integrate data warehouse based on the information systems formerly. So the abilities to store> operate^ analyze data can be enhanced.5.GIS supports data warehouse integration of public utilities. Geo-dimension is the critical dimension besides the production-dimension -. time-dimension and user-dimension. The design of Geo-dimension should be consistent with GIS.6.Combining GIS with pipe network model, data mining can do analyze the two themes" difference of production and sales in any regions and then do location. So enterprises gain effective information in time to hold enterprise operations and improve services, and enterprise competition boost up.
