In order to maintain its "state status", the Taiwan authorities began to employ the Economic aid diplomacy targeting at the extensive developing countries ever since 1950s. After Lee Tunghui took his office in 1998, the role played by the Economic aid diplomacy in promoting the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan authorities and some African countries has aroused great attention from both the theoretical circles and the practical departments that concern Chinese diplomacy. The number of countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan authorities increased from 22 in 1988 to 31, the historical high in 1997. During the years, there were altogether 13 African countries that maintained, established or once established diplomatic relations with Taiwan authorities. By analyzing these countries' politics, economies, societies, foreign relations and the characteristics of their diplomatic relations with Taiwan authorities, this thesis establishes the theoretical model including the factors of territory, population, GDP per capita, economic development, political situation, relationship with the Taiwan authorities and relationship with China. Through the analysis of the relationship between China and other African countries that have diplomatic relations with China, the thesis suggests that China should pay more attention to its relations with such countries as Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Central-Africa, Comoros and Sierra Leone.Chinese foreign affairs departments should also establish corresponding precaution system upon the characteristic of Taiwan's Economic aid diplomacy. While giving full play to the advantages of our relations with African countries, we should also be alert not to be taken advantage of by some countries, through which we can promote the great cause of China's reunification by effectively foiling the attempt of Taiwan authority to separate China and separate Chinese people.
