The South China Sea,as a sea trade and energy transport corridor, is important to Taiwan, therefore, South China Sea plays an vital role for Taiwan. Currently, the South China Sea iconflicts intensified the severity of island’s sovereignty and maritime rights disputes. Under such circumstance, as one of the stakeholders of the South China Sea, Taiwan also has its own policy on the South China Sea issue. The South China Sea issue is concentrated in the post-cold war, Thus, the main issue of this study will focus on the Taiwan authorities policy in South China sea after the cold war.The first part of the paper focus on the basic position of the south sea issue in Taiwan through the understanding of the origin of the south China sea and its geopolitical value.To achieve a comprehensive understanding of Taiwan’s South Sea policy after the cold war, we need to analyze the sequence of events of Taiwan south sea policy.The second part analyzes the Taiwan’s policy on South Chian Sea issue in three different period:during the cold war, after the cold war, and the current situation systematically. This part is the main part of the paper. In order to further understanding the essence of the Taiwan’s policy on the South China Sea, we need to analyze the influence factors behind the policymaking of Taiwan’s policy on the South China Sea.The third part is mainly about to analyze the factors behind the Taiwan’s policy on South China Sea issue from three perspectives, which are island’s political factors, relations across the Taiwan straits and the countries outside.The fourth part is intended to interpret the future Taiwan authority policy on the South China Sea from three points of view,which are the view of future regional leader Tsai ing-Wen,the view of Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) policy on the South China Sea, and the view of cross-strait cooperation in the South China Sea issue.
