With the disseminating of IT technology and the upcoming trend of globalization, insurance industry, pillar of the financial sector, has become a more and more significant player in socio-economic development due to its speciality in guarding against operational risks and providing economic remedies and protections. Therefore, it is pressing to informatize the insurance industry. To meet the requirement of market competition, all insurance companies are energetically explore approaches to informatize business operation and management, making tremendous progress in developing comprehensive management software, hardware, network, emergency call center and e-commerce. The insurance regulator bears the responsibility of both standardizing the competition practice in the market and stimulating the insurance industry. It should adapt itself to the speed of informatization and further meet the requirement of development and innovation so as to fulfill its mission as a regulator and controller and confront the challenge of informatization. The regulatory departments should waste no time in addressing the current problems such as laggard development of software despite the sound hardware equipment, inability in applying LAN system, excessive statistics and inefficient supervising and inadequacy in providing regulation-related administrative services, all of which do not conform to the informatization requirement imposed by breathtaking development of insurance industry. Against this background, I put forward the "Study on the Informatization of China' s Insurance Industry and Insurance Regulation" . My views are as follows: set up a high-level information technological platform compliant to China' s supervisory model; establish OA system within the regulatory system to promote e-governance and management; develop e-commerce; set up a database for regulation, improve the ability in collecting statistics and consolidate the safety of information system, etc.
