The Zihui Agricultural Thought

Deng Zihui contributed greatly to Chinese agriculture. His agricultural thought is of instructive significance to Chinese agricultural modernization. It is regretful that we cannot find an article on Deng Zihui's overall agricultural thought. So I try to remedy this defect. This dissertation is divided into three parts:Part I: Thought on agricultural important status. Deng Zihui explained agricultural importance in politics and economy: (1) Agriculture is the resource of means of subsistence. (2) Agriculure is the foundation of industry. (3) Agriculture is the resource of export commodities. (4) Agriculture is related to worker and farmer's alliance.Part II: views on developing agriculture. In order to develop Chinese agriculture, these measures must be done: (1) Implementing cooperation. (2) carrying out responsibility system (3) planting rice mostly and diversifying at the same time. (4) Developing mountainous agriculture. (5) Depending on science and technology (6) Arousing farmer's initiative.Part III: Appraisement on Deng Zihui's agricultural thought and enlightment. Deng Zihui's agricultural thought is of important status in Chinese social agricultural history. It contributed greatly to Mao Zedong's agricultural thought and it was the first sign of social agricultural reform with Chinese characteristics. We can learn from Deng Zihui's agricultural thought: (1) Productive relations must be adapt to productive forces. (2) Creating bravely. (3) Holding opportunity and enhancing agricultural foundational status.
