Along with the economic globalization, new multinational investments are booming-up. Many countries make use of both domestic and abroad markets and resources to search development. Facing the opportunities and challenges in future, China participates in international labor division and cooperation and develops direct investment overseas reasonably in order to promote economic development and industry structure as well as enhance enterprises capacity in international competition. The level, the scale and the dimension of the participation in international investment, especially in foreign direct investment(FDI) have been the significant symbol of judging the level of economic development, the degree of internationalization and international competency. About twenty-five years past since China began to invest abroad, it's later than the developed countries, but China's progress speed is very quickly. The total number of corporation that China's country set up abroad has preponderated over 6,960 till the end of 2002, the sum of invest has exceed US$9.3 billion. But, the gap between China's overseas direct investment and inflow investment was large too.According to World Investment Report 2003, China's FDI inflows and outflows is US$52.7 billion, US$2.805 billion in 2002, rose by 12% and decreased by 60%. To promote the development of China's export-oriented economy and be in a good position in the structure of economic localism, China must develop FDI actively, cultivate its multinational companies and carry out transnational operation to strengthen the competitive power of enterprises in transnational production and investment as well as international production system, which is the inevitable option of China's economy going with world economic system.This thesis regards present China's overseas direct investment situation and questions as the research object, proceed with basic conception and studying, has described development of China's overseas direct investment, and has analyzed the characteristic of China's overseas direct investment. And the paper regards the case of China's enterprise as analysis internationalization strategy of China's enterprise. On the basis of this, I put forward some suggestions how China could develop its FDI in current stage.This thesis can be divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction of research object, research a home and abroad documents and research methodology. In the second part, introduces various theories on FDI, including the monopolistic advantage theory, the internalization theory, the eclectic theory of international production, the imperfect competition, Wells' theories and the Kojima thesis, intending to find the theoretical support standing for China's FDI investment. In the third part, has described history of China's overseas direct investment and characteristics mainly. The overseas direct investment evolution of China can be divided into four stages: The first stage(1979-1984), it is the stage of starting; The second stage(1985-1991), it is the stage of growing up; The third stage(1992-1998); The fourth stage(1999-today), it is a leap stage. The overseas direct investment of China has following Characteristics: pluralism of investment subject; miniaturization of scale of investment; diversification of investment trade; centralization of invest in the area; pluralism way of providing funds.In the fourth part, select three China's company, such as Haier, TCL , Wanxiang and Lanxing as typical examples to analyze their patterns of FDI in terms with their history and strategic aim. The first section regards a Haier group as the represent sample, is called a 'XIAN NAN HOU YI(be difficult before it is easy)' model. A Haier group, first, ensures a relative superior in the developed market. And then, push into other developing country's market.
