Sichuan Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture Of Ethnic Relations And Its Development

Liang Shan is the biggest residential area for Yi Nationality whose ancestors inhabited in the area long before. Yi Nationality of Liang Shan has established close relationship with other nationalities in tre political, economic and cultural fields during its long history. It is valuable to research on the relationship and will have advantage to consolidate the national unity harmonious co-existing. Yi Nationality of Liang Shan was famous for its relic of slavery in China's latter-day history. Its classic slavery model provides useful material for anthropologic study. In the early studies, few monographs and thesis delivered systematic research on the relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area. My thesis on relationship of nationalities will fill the blank of this subject and be valuable for the further research.The thesis is divided into seven parts: first one is an introducing chapter, providing some basic information of this thesis; the second part is about the history of the relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area (Before 1949); the third part reviews the newly-established relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area from 1949 to 1956; the forth chapter concentrates to the relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area in the period from 1966 to 1976; the fifth goes to the relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area in "Cultural Revolution" during 1966 to 1976; the sixth focus on the relationship in the period from 1976 to 2003 when reform and opening up policy was extensively adopted; the last part is a concluding part, the feature of the relationship is emphasized and the future development of this relationship is under consideration. In the thesis, the development of the relationship is roughly divided into two larger parts as before and after 1949 when PLA was established.In the thesis, I find out that the development of the relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area experienced the harmony to maladjustment then back to harmony cycle in the history attributing to the natural environment, social situation, national policy for minority nationalities and cultures. On the base of this finding, I argue about the development and feature of the relationship of nationalities in Liang Shan area as well as other factors which have influence on the development. And the future development is also considered and analyzed in the thesis.
