Globalization leads to more ingelligible "extensive conglomeration" and the status and the rate of megalopolis, metropolis circles, urban agglomeration, economic circles become more eminent. As an important aspect of urban system structure transformation in globalization process, the marginalization of local city is a significant problem in economic and social development as well. Under the globalization, the marginalization of individual local city has been paid more and more attention by academics and governments at each level. The marginalization of individual local city is an unavoidable phenomenon in urban development process.The author points out, from the view of analyzing a variety of economic and social factors which influence urban development under the globalization, traditional affective factors still play a part, although their effects have been far weaker than that of factors coming out recently, based on extensively applying the theory of economic geography, urban geography, urban economics, regional economics and so on.This paper expounds a better concept to define marginalization of local city on the foundation of concluding all kinds of researches, and analyzing some typical processes and influence by using qualitative and quantitative methods, from static and dynamic aspects.The general and individual factors which result in the city marginalization are summarized by researching the current characteristics, existing issues, marginalization process, development trend of marginal cities in northeast area, from macro and micro levels, and then the forming mechanism of marginalization of the local city is outlined.Moreover, based on practical study and comparison among different cities, the author puts forward the measures for the cities to get rid of the marginalization and to resist decadence, and points out the development ideas should be placed in more macroscopic framework.
