It is the strategy covering the overall situation of modernization that advances national economy and social informationization in a more cost-effective manner. In this background, Internet in China has passed 10 years. Today, a lot of changes have taken place in the Internet industrial, whether CSTNet could meet the new industry environment, find out our localization, catch opportunity for development, get the pioneer status again.Chapter one tries to analyse Internet's industry environment. China's government has supported and protected the development of the Internet. Internet in China is characteristic of great market space, fast developing speed, and market recovery. In the trade of China Telecom industury, mobile users exceed regular users, broadband users exceed narrowband users, and datum business exceeds the business telephone. Much business is being transformed and new market opportunies are emerging.Chapter two analyses the market of Internet data centre (IDC). In the service model, domestic IDC providers are only responsible for offering place and management service, users choose business platform. But in foreign countries, besides offering co-location and rents, they provide more outstanding services at the application level, not merely wrap up outside resources, in order to meet enterprise individualized e-commerce business demand. Chapter three analyses the resource and competitiveness of CSTNet. In the front of new opportunity for development of domestic Internet, what are the advantage inferior positions, opportunities and challenges of CSTNet? CSTNet is one of ten major providers of Internets in China, covering more than 20 provinces in the whole country. Clients include Chinese scientific and technological circles, government offices, trade administrative departments, high-tech enterprises, etc. By the end of 2004, there had been more than 1 million network end users.Chapter four deals with the change of Internet's industry value chain, and industry's environmental analysis, and proposes the CSTNet strategy. IDC is in a highly capital-intensive and skill-intensive industry. It can be predicted that the competition of domestic IDC market will continue for years to come. To play an important role in the Internet market in China, CSTNet must improve and enhance its managerial capability and operational efficiency and effectiveness.
