As the contradictions of territory, race and terrorism going further in the global area, varieties of crises arise constantly and turn into one of the most important replacements of violent conflicts and wars during the Post-Cold War Era. Therefore a well-equipped crisis management mechanism is an essential barrier for the contemporary nations to safeguard their national security as well as a primary method to achieve national interests. From the perspective of Mainland China, Taiwan issue has always been a great challenge to the country, and the Taiwan Strait has maintained a long-standing crisis. How to implement efficient crisis management is a realistic and significant topic to access the great undertakings of reunifying China.Led by crisis management theory, the thesis chooses the escalating 1995 Taiwan Strait Crisis as the case. By analyzing the behavior of all the participating actors, the thesis will endeavor to seek the laws of management itself so as to provide useful advices for the potential crisis in the Taiwan Strait.Presented by relevant theories, the thesis put the emphasis on the developing process of escalation and the management. Under the theoretic construction, the escalation of crisis is divided into three stages: the low, middle and high levels. In the middle level, the characters, variables and non-successful management of Mainland, Taiwan and U.S. will be discussed from both domestic and international angles. In the high level, the quite successful process will be introduced relating with the theory. Based on the research, the author suggests that decision-makers in crises should set limited goals and strive for win-win solution. By establishing efficient communication channels and sending clear signals, all concerning parties could avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation at least. At the same time, the participants should maintain the flexibility of choice and use the comprehensive methods of diplomatic channel and military deterrence. From the suggestions above, the author points out that enhancing national power is essential to solving Taiwan issue.
