The ethos, which is the rational sublimation of the excellent cultural traditions of a nation, is the inherent impetus and mental pillars for the promotion of the continual development and advance of a nation. At the early stage of the founding of the People's Republic of China (The PRC), the ethos of the Chinese nation was further cultivated and advanced. This formed the powerful spiritual strength for the development of the whole nation. It is driven by this kind of spiritual strength that the people of the whole nation united together closely. This promoted the development of various kinds of careers and the progress of the whole society. The cultivation, advance and rejuvenation of the ethos of the Chinese nation, which was the necessary requirements and spiritual strength for the rise and revival of the newly founded PRC, bears historic and epoch making significance.Based on the comparison between the generality of the ethos and the particularity of the ethos of the Chinese nation, the present dissertation illustrates the basic connotation of the ethos of the Chinese nation. On the basis of this connotation and starting from the historical reality, the author analyses the concrete contents and the basic ways for the cultivation and advance of the ethos of the Chinese nation at the initial stage of the founding of the PRC. Last but not the least, the author clarifies the significance of the cultivation and advance of the ethos of the Chinese nation from the angel of historical facts and development.
