Study Of The Initiative Of Asean In East Asian Cooperation Process

Since the 1990s, regional cooperation and integration has become an important trend in the development of modern society. East Asia is the most energetic place as regard to economy, so it's natural the need of the regional cooperation there becomes demanding day by day. However, compared with the countries in America and Europe where EU and NAFTA have been set up, the regional cooperation in East Asia is not so energetic, and it's faced with hard challenge, as the representative hindrance of the multi-developed features, complex relationship between countries, and traditionally rooted historical contradictions.During the process of regional cooperation and integration, the problem which country would be the leader is the most sensitive one. This leader means the dominating effect and influence of one country or country-group on the regional cooperation, instead the owner-slaver relationship regulated by law or executive. To carry out this effect and influence doesn't mean to do it by violence, compulsion or law, but by its strength, ability and its subjective willingness, which all the other countries have no choice but to accept Given the historic and present situation, it's reasonable for ASEAN to take this position.This thesis includes the introduction and four parts. In the introduction, I mainly talk about the aims and insignificance of my choosing mis topic, researching conditions, researching methods, etc.In the first part, the theories of dominating power in regional cooperation are under the discussion, talking about the leading role of ASEAN in the East Asia cooperation. In my opinion, those participate in the East Asia cooperation includes ASEAN, which appears as a community, China, Japan, and Korea. The cooperation in East Asia has many layers, the ways of which is changeable as well. At present, the ten countries of ASEAN are fairly stable, with the "10+1"framework, "10+3" framework and the "10+3+3" framework which coming into being in East Asia Summit Up till now, on every levels, ASEAN plays the main role mainly, for no matter it's "10+3" or "10+1", or East Asia Summit, it's the ten countries of ASEAN which played the role of leader and bridge.
