Since the 1990s, the ecological environment in China's western areas has been worsening off, which arouses the Government's great concern as well as universal attention from the general public. As a result, a policy concerning the ecological migration aiming at the protection and improvement of the ecological environment in the western regions came into being. The western areas are usually spots where people of minority nationalities live in concentrated communities, so, the policy will inevitably involve those ethnic minorities. In recent years, the issues of ecological migration and the existence and development of the ethnic minorities have drawn many experts as well as scholars' attention. The contemporary studies on ecological migration chiefly focus on such macro theoretical aspects as its definition, significance, means, problems and solutions. However, the researches apropos of migrant's social adaptation, especially that of the national minorities, are more often than not limited. Whether we can properly cope with the issue of ecological migration, particularly the relationship between ethnic minority migrants and social adaptation, will concern the future development of the nation and a harmonious society construction. In the light with the theme, the paper, from the perspective of ecological sociology, intends to elaborate the social adaptation of Mongolian migrants from Xianghuang Banner of Xilingol League to the suburbs in Huhhot, Inner Mongolia. By doing so, the author attempts to provide some constructive suggestions for the present ecological migration policy implemented in ethnic minority areas, and to probe into some new theories relating to building new pasturelands. This thesis consists of seven chapters. Chapter One: Introduction, which briefs the significance of the project, the status quo of the research, the object and methods. Chapter Two: Background of Ecological Migration. It mainly illustrates the ecological environment, socio-economic conditions and some practice of ecological migration conducted in both the emigration as well as immigration areas. Chapters Three, Fourand Five give detailed descriptions and provoking analysis of the social adaptation of those Mongolian migrants from Xianghuang Banner in terms of economy, daily life and interpersonal relations respectively. Chapter Six deliberates the problems and reasons of ecological migration and comes to some thoughts. Chapter seven: conclusion. Based on the aforementioned analysis, the author summarizes the social adaptation of ecological migrants, and reiterates the purpose and significance of the research.
