Since 1992, China's notarization system has developed rapidly. As an international prevailing preventive legal system, notarization has played a positive role in preventing disputes, safeguarding transactions, improving social credit system and realizing the state's indirect intervention in social and economic life. However, with the furthering of reform of the market economy, dramatic changes have taken place in economic foundations, structural circumstances and social conditions on which notarization relies. There have arisen disharmonies between notarization and the market economy in the aspects of notarization system, management mode, personnel quality and integrity. Therefore, notarization reform has been placed on the agenda. In the practice of the 15-year reform, quite a few in-depth contradictions have emerged. One of the major but ignored issues is the identity and role positioning of notaries. It is of major significance for promoting the notarization reform to analyze from microcosmic aspects the identity nature of notaries in notarization reform and their role positioning in building social credit system.Role analysis method is a good approach and technique of analysis of group structure. As British sociologist Nadal pointed out, social structure is a role structure. This paper, in analyzing the notary group, has applied the role analysis method investigating into the identity nature of notaries in notarization system reform and their role playing in building the social credit system.This paper gathers information through questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews by the method of combining statistical investigation with on-the-spot research.This paper is divided into four chapters, which are:Chapter I Introduction It primarily discusses the realistic reasons of research into the role of notaries and its significance for the reform and development of China's notarization system.. This paper studies the current situation of roleset of notaries in social credit system against the identity of notaries under different notarization systems. This angle of study has substantially expanded the vision of study of notarization. It is also of great significance to the reform of notarization.Chapter II Background of Research It is divided into three parts: "Concept Definition", Theoretical background and summary of relevant studies " and "Research hypothesis and research method". First, this paper defines the major concepts of research. Then, it discusses the role theory—major contents of the role theory in this research. It also reviews the study of the role of notaries performed by scholars both at home and abroad and comments on these researches. Finally, it proposes the research hypothesis and research method.Chapter III From Singularity to Pluralism The investigation of the role of notaries under current stage first introduces the investigation into two notary public offices of Linyi City; Then, after analysis of data of investigation, it describes the current situation of the role play of notaries in the social credit system of China and role conflict; Finally, it concludes that the correct performance of the role of notaries is the key to exploit its credit role and ensure the success of the reform of notarization system.Chapter IV The role adaptability of notaries in social credit system On the basis the above analysis, this paper proposes that the role adaptability of notaries in the social credit system be conducted from two aspects: role building and role culture.
