Singapore Youth Civic Education And Inspiration

A national campain of new citizenship education is vital to China's modernization, especially the great revival of the nation. By taking a bird's view of the world's citizenship education, Singapore is among the world's best. Its rapid progress and social harmony amaze the world and earn its name in international community, which owes much to the successful citizenship education . China and Singapore belong to the estern culture shaped largely by the Confucianism , and share similar modern history.With hope to improve ours, I try to do research on the juvenile citizenship education of Singapore.This dissertation begins with tracing back from Greek and Roman time's so-called citizenship; next, make comparisons between ideological education , morality education, education in respect for the law and the all-round quality education ,then a discription is presented on views of citizenship education;finally a summary of distinctive values of citizenship among America, Germany and Singapore further explaining why the author tend to take Singaporean citizenship education of young people as a shining example.This article focuses on Singaporian juvenile citizenship education which is divided into three parts: First, the review of citizenship education history; Second, a detailed discription in the name of patriotic education, the education in respect for the law, the social harmonious education, the traditional ethic education and global education; third, illustrations are given about its implemention in three ways : classroom teaching, extracurricular activities and community services; Finally, the author comes to a conclusion : highly valuing the Confucianist ethics education and"the three combinations"which make it a great success.The last part is aimed to build our own system of juvenile citizenship education with Chinese characteristics, suggesting combining the legacy of Confucisiom with the western citizen ideas.thus a new generations with both international and national characteristics will come up.
