Honesty is a social ethic which maintains the whole normal system of the society and the legitimate benefit of individuals. It is of great importance to social lives and has been valued and canonized at all times. The social culture of honesty has been cultivated in the social lives, and it turns over to show great influence on the concept of value and behavior guidelines of honesty in people's social lives. As the subjective reflection of the social reality of honesty, not only does the social culture of honesty include the cognition and accumulation of people towards the social concept of honesty, it also includes the attitude and culture of people towards the social concept of honesty whose kernel is the cognition of honesty, format the sensibility of honesty, content the criterion of honesty, soul the value of honesty. Being an organic whole, the social culture of honesty has every connection with people's social lives. It is the inner attitude, the purpose status, the thinking level, and the ideas commonly owned by social members, and it is the principle of faith which people would take into consideration when dealing with problems of social honesty.During the unusual period of the Cultural Revolution, the social culture of honesty was thrown into a state of disorder. The social consciousness of honesty which ever valued mutual honesty, mutual respect and promise-keeping was distorted, and the concept of social honesty became hazy because it no longer had the efficacy in making people "know to believe" intrinsically, and "speak to act" extrinsically. So it led to the mental disorder of the social honesty among the common people who suffered from mentality of doubt, group following-like-sheep mentality, and mentality of dual personality. Therefore they abandoned the expectation of social honesty, stayed away from social honesty mentally and behaviorally and had a cold complex towards social honesty in mind. The social honesty in the whole society became fragile as empty sermon, mendacious demonstration and open lies turned into the fashion of the society.For the time being, our country has continued the fine tendency of the socialist's market economy since the Third Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the CPC, and entered a transitional period of politics, economy and culture. But an avoidable fact is that it has a long way to go for the social culture of honesty to take effect in our social lives after it was distorted during the Cultural Revolution. In order to enhance the development of the material infrastructure, ideological infrastructure and political infrastructure healthily and orderly and the harmonious and steady advance of social lives, we should promote the modern transformation of our traditional culture of social honesty, improve the social consciousness over the quality of social honesty, rebuild the quality of honesty and the personality of honesty which modem society needs, help awaken the humanity in the transitional period, heal the social disease of social honesty ever since Cultural Revolution, and eradicate the damage which the Cultural Revolution brought to the social culture of honesty.
