Traditional Filial Piety

The Chinese Nations has created a long history and splendid civilization. Filial piety is a traditional virtue of the Chinese Nations. It is one of the most important moral criteria to deal with the relationship between parents and children, the elder and the younger. Filial piety is the foundation of human relation and morality. Filial piety plays an important role in China's traditional ethics and even China's traditional culture. The traditional society of China, in a sense, is the society laying its basis on filial piety. So we can say that the traditional Chinese culture is the culture of filial piety. Filial piety is a moral concept, which can reflect the developing rule of mankind. It is the doctrine that has vital force and changes constantly. It is of great theoretical and realistic significance to study the problem of filial piety.This thesis firstly analyse the concept of filial piety and its origin from various angles, and then analyse the spreading of the traditional doctrine of filial piety to Taiwan areas through Chinese history. However, because of its particular geographic location ang historical suffering, the traditional filial piety has different features in Taiwan areas nowadays. Finally, the thesis make a further investigation of the characteristics of the traditional filial piety.As is known to us all, Taiwan areas is one indispensable part of our great motherland, and all the Chinese people cross the Taiwan Straits have the same ethnic origin, the same blood, the same customs, the same language and the same characters. Therefore, we hope that the whole Chinese people cross the Taiwan Straits jiontly carry on the excellent Chinese traditional culture (including Chinese traditional filial piety, of course), and this is the great blessedness of Chinese Nations.
