Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada in 1970, the political leaders of both countries had set aside the differences such as, ideology, social system, traditional customs, and taken the joint efferts to push for the healthy and steadfast development of Sino-Canada's bilateral relationship. In 2006, with the Conservative Party's victory in the nation's federal election, its political leader Harper took power as the new Prime Minister of Canada. The core of Harper's government's foreign policy lies in the bilateral relationship between Canada and the United States which was placed as top priority in Consevative government's"New Diplomacy"policies. With this in mind, the Canadian government put more emphsis on ideology and attached more attention to the areas of disagreement between China and Canada, which caused a direct bearing on Sino-Canada relations.Through the in-depth understanding and close analysis of Harper's government's new foreign policies, the purpose of the thesis aims at obtaining the clear picture about the present Sino-Canadian relations and realizing the fundamental causes of the two nations'bilateral relations going backwards. Besides, this thesis also points out some possible developmental trends about Sino-Canada relations. The thesis retrospects the history of Sino-Canada's relations development since the foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, and discusses the full image of Canada's foreign policies towards China. Then, by making the best use of some political theories concerning the Liberalism and Conservatism, this thesis systematically analyses why Harper's government has made some adjustments towards China's foreign policies and points out the possible trends about Sino-Canadian relations in the future. The thesis consists of four parts as followed:Chapter One retrospects the history of Sino-Canada's relations development since the foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, aiming to comparing with the present Canada government and illustrating the position and influences of Harper's government in the course of the two countries's development. Chapter Two analyses the Canada's"New Diplomacy"policy, especially focused on its influences towards China and Canada relations. Chapter Three is the core of this thesis, discussing the Liberalism and Conservatism in Canada and analyses the fundamental reasons of the Conservative Party's adjustment to China's policy from both the domestic and foreign factors. Chapter Four foresees the future picture of Sino-Canada relations based on the above analysis of Chapter Three.
